It takes place between the second and third books over summer vacation in order to tell a bit of Maki's story - almost all the other major players in the series have had an expository book of sorts, and this one is hers. While all the hallmarks of the Book Girl series are here the weird echoey version of a famous book, the psychological creepiness that comes out especially toward the end , Tohko's long speeches about what a story really means, the is-it-or-isn't-it regarding the fantasy creatures That mystery was one of the driving elements that kept me reading, followed by the mystery of Tohko, and since it has already been resolved in the previous books, this one is a side story that doesn't touch it. There really isn't much for Konoha to do at all, actually, since it's mostly all about Maki and a little bit about Tohko. It was also a little bit confusing because it's been so long since I finished the first two books in the series that I couldn't really remember how much Konoha's character had developed or what exactly his and Tohko's relationship was like back then since it, too, has changed over the course of the year. After a while, I settled into the book and it didn't matter as much, but it was jarring to suddenly be sent back over half a year in the story without entirely expecting it.
